eTracker develops new Work Based Learning and Train to Gain module
to aid personalised learning
13th November 2009: VLE Support has added a new Work Based Learning (WBL) module to its existing individual learning plan (eILP), eTracker. Tutors, employers and students involved in Work Based Learning or Train to Gain courses can now access the system to track and report on students’ progress.
Mark Trinick, Managing Director of VLE Support comments: “Our eTracker system has been very popular with both students and staff at FE Colleges looking to achieve personalised learning, and we were asked to develop a similar system that would capable of tracking WBL and Train to Gain courses with as much ease. The programmes are complex in that the learner has to succeed across a range of separate qualifications which comprise the apprenticeship framework. We needed to build a module that we could add to our existing eTracker system that would be flexible enough to cope with these factors, and I’m delighted to say that we have succeeded!”
eTracker now has the flexibility to cover the full range of learning programmes, making effective use of assessment to not only track a learner’s progress but also to encourage them to engage in critical self-assessment. It gives colleges the ability to capture information on each learner relating to academic and pastoral achievements as well as addressing equality and diversity issues, and share that information with relevant people from tutor to student to employer.
The new WBL module has already been rolled out by a number of colleges throughout the UK, and feedback has been very positive:
Uchey Eze-Uzomaka, Assistant Director of Tutoring at NESCOT comments: “Students really enjoy using eTracker, and the staff think the whole system is far more streamlined now. Previously all our data on performance, attendance and targets etc was all paper based for the learner and there was a lot of duplicated effort. Most importantly it’s simple to use - just one page on each student with all the information we need all in one place.
“Perhaps just as importantly eTracker helps us to address some of the challenges being presented by new education policies - it helps us to prove that the VLE we implement is having a real impact.”
VLE Support will be launching the Work Based Learning module and demonstrating eTracker at the AoC Annual Conference & Exhibition in Hall 3 Stand 60, on 17th-19th November 2009.
