NESCOT adopts eTracker
12th October 2009: NESCOT (North East Surrey College of Technology) is rolling-out eTracker across the college. eTracker is an eILP (electronic individual learning platform) that monitors the individual progress of students against their personal targets and presents all the relevant information on one simple page.
eTracker helps colleges to meet the challenges of recent government policies like Personalisation, the QCF and Framework for Excellence.
eTracker will support NESCOT’s full range of courses including Further Education, Higher Education, short, full and part-time courses, and also now supports Work Based Learning. The college anticipates that it will become a motivating influence for the students, helping to improve performance both academically and pastorally.
eTracker was developed and implemented by VLE Support – a specialist in building technology solutions for educational institutions. It brings together all the data on each student held by the college, from their grades through to attendance records through to disciplinary issues. This delivers better quality information to teachers and provides them with a holistic view of individuals or groups of students, allowing them to identify issues and intervene quickly if necessary. eTracker will also deliver greater efficiencies - saving time and reducing paperwork.
Uchey Eze-Uzomaka, Assistant Director of Tutoring at NESCOT comments: “Students really enjoy using eTracker, and the staff think the whole system is far more streamlined now. Previously all our data on performance, attendance and targets etc was all paper based for the learner and there was a lot of duplicated effort. Most importantly it’s simple to use - just one page on each student with all the information we need all in one place.
“Perhaps just as importantly eTracker helps us to address some of the challenges being presented by new education policies - it helps us to prove that the VLE we implement is having a real impact.”
Access to eTracker is strictly controlled; for example, students can only see information relevant to their personal work, whereas teachers have access to greater depth of information on each student and across groups of students. eTracker leads the way in combining the effective use of data and a personalised approach to help colleges support individual needs and aspirations.
