1 July 2008: e-learning expert VLE Support has today launched two new optional modules to complement its highly successful electronic ILP – eTracker.
ePortfolio
This new module will allow students to upload and manage files including JPEGs, WAV and MP3s as well as Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents and gives them the ability to share these files with members of staff and associate them with individual assessment criterion within their ILP. Using ePortfolio, students can create a personal repository safe in the knowledge that they have absolute control over what they choose to share, with whom, for what purpose and for how long.
eLights
This traffic light system has been designed to enable an individual student and his or her teachers to quickly monitor their performance profile by means of a green, amber or red signal. Students are given a green light and 100 points at the beginning of each academic year. They can lose points if there is a drop-off in performance in any particular course or attendance or if a teacher registers a cause for concern. As points are deducted, the light changes from green to amber to red. Equally, students can gain points through improved performance to get back to a green light or to see a ‘Good’, ‘Excellent’ or ‘Outstanding’ comment alongside their green light. Traffic lights can also be used to provide a comprehensive illustration of how a group is performing.
VLE Support Managing Director, Mark Trinick, comments: “The use of technology is all about making life easier for both student and teacher alike. We’ve designed ePortfolio and eLights to provide two new valuable tools that can motivate students to improve their performance and allow teachers to effectively track progress – intervening and rectifying any issue fast before it can become a real problem.”
Launched last summer, eTracker led the way in combining the effective use of data and a personalised approach to help schools and colleges support individual needs and aspirations.
