John Ruskin College leads the way
John Ruskin College has had an amazing success with BTEC qualifications in recent years – success which has led the college to specialise in these vocational courses from September 2009.
BTEC qualifications combine theory and practice and are delivered by teachers who have industrial and business experience. BTEC courses are assessed throughout the year (just like many university courses) and not through final examinations. Students on these vocational courses go out on work related visits and work experience that is directly relevant to their course. Almost every university in the country now accepts students with a BTEC National Diploma and some universities prefer BTEC students because they often have more skills in managing their learning. In 2008, John Ruskin College sent 150 BTEC students to universities.
